Planning a Morocco trip can feel overwhelming given the country's size and the sheer number of things to see. The key is matching your available time with your priorities. Here are three itineraries we have refined over years of guiding travelers through Morocco.

7-Day Itinerary: Imperial Cities Highlights

A week in Morocco is enough to experience the essential highlights without feeling rushed. This itinerary focuses on the Imperial Cities with a taste of the surrounding countryside.

Day 1 begins in Casablanca, where you visit the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world and one of the few in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors. After exploring the waterfront, drive to Rabat in the afternoon.

Day 2 is spent in Rabat exploring the Kasbah of the Udayas, Hassan Tower, and the modern Mohammed V Mausoleum. The contrast between ancient and modern Morocco is striking here.

Days 3 and 4 take you to Fez, with a stop at the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes along the way. Two full days in Fez allows time to properly explore the medina, visit the tanneries, and discover hidden gems that most tourists miss.

Day 5 is a travel day from Fez to Marrakech, crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains. The journey itself is scenic, passing through cedar forests and Berber villages.

Days 6 and 7 are devoted to Marrakech, covering the major sites including Jemaa el-Fnaa, Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, and the Majorelle Garden. The final evening is perfect for a farewell dinner on a rooftop terrace overlooking the medina.

10-Day Itinerary: Imperial Cities + Desert

Ten days allows you to add the Sahara Desert to the Imperial Cities circuit, creating a more complete Morocco experience.

Follow the 7-day itinerary through Day 4 in Fez. On Day 5, instead of driving directly to Marrakech, head south through the Middle Atlas to Erfoud and Merzouga.

Days 5 and 6 cover the journey to the Sahara, with stops at the Ziz Valley and a night in a desert camp among the Erg Chebbi dunes. The camel ride into the desert at sunset and the sunrise over the dunes are moments that stay with travelers for a lifetime.

Day 7 takes you through the Dades Valley and Todra Gorge, two of Morocco's most dramatic landscapes. The towering canyon walls of Todra Gorge are particularly impressive.

Day 8 includes a visit to Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed kasbah that has appeared in films from Gladiator to Game of Thrones. From here, cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass through the High Atlas to reach Marrakech.

Days 9 and 10 are spent exploring Marrakech at a relaxed pace, with time for shopping, spa visits, and cooking classes alongside the major sightseeing.

14-Day Itinerary: The Complete Morocco Experience

Two weeks allows you to see virtually everything Morocco has to offer, including the coast, mountains, desert, and all four Imperial Cities.

Follow the 10-day itinerary, then add these experiences:

Days 11 and 12 take you to Essaouira, the charming coastal town known for its fresh seafood, art galleries, and laid-back atmosphere. The drive from Marrakech passes through argan forests where goats famously climb the trees.

Day 13 offers a choice: return to Marrakech for a day trip to the Ourika Valley in the Atlas Mountains, or spend an extra day in Essaouira exploring the medina and relaxing on the beach.

Day 14 is your departure day, with time for final shopping and a leisurely breakfast before heading to the airport.

Tips for All Itineraries

Start your days early to avoid the midday heat and crowds. The medinas are most atmospheric in the morning when shops are opening and the light is soft.

Build in flexibility. Morocco rewards spontaneity, whether it is accepting a tea invitation from a shopkeeper or taking an unplanned detour to a village festival.

Consider hiring a local guide for at least your first day in Fez and Marrakech. The medinas are genuinely confusing to navigate, and a good guide provides cultural context that transforms sightseeing into understanding.
